European grants for journalistic investigations

This is a grant supporting joint investigations by teams of journalists from Ukraine and other member states of the Council of Europe. The funding will cover travel, visa, accommodation, translation, fixers, access to pay-databases and other project related expenses. Also, you will get mentorship support if needed. 
 
Grants vary from EUR 2,000 to 14,000 per project, but there are no restrictions about the sum.
 
European Cross-Border Grants are carried out by Belgium based independent non‐profit organisation Journalismfund.eu. This is one of the thousands of EU opportunities for Ukraine.

  • Mentor’s consultations about cross-border collaboration, identifying sources, research methods, storytelling or other topics you are interested in
Can I apply?

To apply for this grant you need to have: 

  • Good idea of investigation on European topics relevant to European target groups
  • Professional experience in journalism
  • Colleague from one of the member states of the Council of Europe who will become your partner in the investigation. If you don’t have a partner yet, check out tips on the Journalismfund.eu website

Applicants can be both freelancers and employed staff journalists. When relevant for the story, team members from outside Europe can be accepted, too.

What do I need to apply?

Completed application form that includes: 

  • Precise description of your project. Explain core conflict of the story, results of your preliminary research, provide your method, plan and expected timeline. 
  • Copy of passports of team members
  • CV of team members
  • letters of intent from at least two professional news outlets in two different countries
  • Detailed budget using budget template
How do I apply?
Register on the online-platform and fill in the application in English.
Good to know
  • The result of your journalistic investigation can be published by a professional media outlet in any language. 
  • Journalists who were previously allocated this grant can reapply. The jury will include the result of previous grants in their evaluation of the new application.
