Workshop on organising large-scale events in small towns.

Over the course of three days, you will explore what makes your town or village unique and learn how to express that through cultural initiatives. You will define the target audience, develop soft skills, and master up-to-date tools for cultural management.

After the workshop, you will have access to one-on-one consultations, where you can ask for advice and refine your event idea. Pick a convenient time slot on 14 or 15 June between 09.00 and 20.00.

When: lectures on 11-13 June (14.00-18.00), consultations on 14-15 June (half an hour between 9.00 and 20.00)

Who are the speakers?
  • Olena Afanasieva, a manager, art curator, civil society activist, and Head of the Totem Centre for Cultural Development. Before the full-scale invasion, she was a Co-Founder and Art Director of the creative space Urban CAD in Kherson.
  • Denys Vasyliev, has 20+ years of experience in cultural management. He is the Director of the Museum of the History of Musical Instruments BarabanZA, Founder of the Centre for the Development of Business Technologies and Culture, and Programme Director of the Sound Art Space art residency.
  • Diana Berg, an activist and artist from Donetsk. She founded the protest movement Donetsk is Ukraine. In 2014, she relocated from the occupied city to Mariupol, where she established the TU Platform.
  • Yurii Tkach, has 20+ years of leadership experience in education and culture. He is a historian, philologist, cultural heritage expert, director, event organiser, and head of a regional art museum.
Can I apply?

Workshop will benefit cultural managers, event managers, art space coordinators, and activists who:

  • Are of full age
  • Currently live in Ukraine
  • Reside outside the largest cities
  • Have up to five years of experience in the cultural sector
  • Want to organise impactful cultural events in their towns and villages

  • Representatives of national minorities of Ukraine are encouraged. 
  • The workshop is part of Cultural Transformation Lab — a series of practical education and networking events aimed at supporting Ukrainian cultural managers, civil society, and cultural actors residing outside of large cities and regional centres in times of war. The Lab is carried out by Goethe-Institut Ukraine and is part of an EU-funded programme House of Europe.
